Anthropic Signs $35 Billion Lambda Cloud Deal

Six-year agreement lifts Anthropic’s cloud commitments announced or reported this year above $180 billion.

  • Anthropic has struck a $35 billion, six-year deal with Nvidia-backed Lambda for computing capacity in Texas, accelerating its push to secure the infrastructure needed to train and run its Claude models.

Lambda is expected to supply the capacity from a roughly 350-megawatt data center that Hut 8 is developing in Nueces County, Reuters reported.

The Wall Street Journal, which first reported the agreement, said Nvidia holds the lease on the facility and will provide the chips. Lambda will make the Nvidia-powered capacity available to Anthropic.

The arrangement places Nvidia at nearly every stage of the transaction. The chipmaker is an investor in both Anthropic and Lambda, supplies the processors and controls access to the data center through its lease.

The agreement follows Anthropic’s reported $45 billion, six-year deal with Nscale for capacity at a West Virginia data center.

In April, Anthropic committed more than $100 billion over 10 years to Amazon Web Services. Together, the three commitments exceed $180 billion.

The scale of the spending reflects how access to chips, electricity and data centers has become a constraint for AI companies seeking to expand their models and serve more customers.

The deal also lands as Nvidia reassesses parts of a financing initiative designed to help smaller AI cloud providers buy its hardware. The company has paused some proposed arrangements under the program, The Wall Street Journal reported, following investor scrutiny of so-called circular deals in which Nvidia finances or supports companies that ultimately buy or rent its chips.

Nvidia said the broader business model remains in place and continues to evolve as demand grows.
