IBM, OpenAI Deepen Push Into Enterprise AI
The companies will deploy specialist teams to help large organizations integrate AI into core business systems.

IBM and OpenAI are expanding their enterprise AI push through a partnership that combines OpenAI technology with IBM’s consulting business to help companies deploy AI across core operations.
Under the agreement announced on Thursday, IBM will embed OpenAI’s GPT-5.6 model, Codex and ChatGPT Work into IBM Consulting Advantage, its AI platform for delivering consulting services.
The companies will initially target financial services, government, telecommunications and retail, alongside corporate functions such as finance, procurement, customer operations and human resources.
IBM will also create a dedicated OpenAI Practice, training thousands of consultants and engineers through the OpenAI Partner Network. Specialist forward-deployed teams will work directly with customers to adapt existing systems and workflows for AI use.
“The challenge is not access to AI technologies, it’s integrating AI securely and at scale into complex enterprise environments and workflows,” Andy Baldwin, global senior vice president at IBM Consulting, said in the announcement.
IBM and OpenAI will also work together on modernizing older applications, using Codex and other tools to support software development and redesign existing systems.
Cybersecurity is another part of the agreement. IBM plans to combine OpenAI technology with its Autonomous Security service, which uses multiple AI agents for threat analysis and response. The companies said the work will also address risks introduced by AI deployments, including application vulnerabilities, weak governance and inadequate operational controls.
IBM is already part of OpenAI’s Daybreak Cyber Partner Program and will now join the company’s highest partner tier.
