Kavitha Subramanian, Co-founder of Upstox
In India’s fast-moving fintech arena, Kavitha Subramanian is building something deceptively simple: access. As Co-founder of Upstox, she has helped turn a once-niche brokerage into one of the country’s fastest-growing investment platforms. Founded in 2009 as RKSV Securities by Ravi Kumar and Shrini Viswanath, the company took a decisive turn when Subramanian joined as co-founder in 2016.
Since then, she has led growth, strategy, finance and customer experience, helping Upstox scale into a billion-dollar startup. In FY 2022 to 23, the Ratan Tata-backed firm crossed the Rs 1,000 crore revenue mark and has emerged as a close competitor to Zerodha.
An alumna of IIT Bombay with BTech and MTech in Electronics and Telecom, Subramanian started at McKinsey, then moved to private equity at Actis and LeapFrog Investments. She also earned an MBA in Finance from The Wharton School. In a country where millions are opening demat accounts for the first time, Subramanian represents a new wave of founders who are not just chasing valuation but widening financial inclusion.
