HCL Technologies Ltd struck three deals last week, buying a business intelligence firm, an AI startup, and Hewlett Packard Enterprise’s telecom software unit as the Indian IT services company doubles down on software-led growth beyond traditional outsourcing.
The company’s software arm, HCLSoftware, is acquiring business intelligence firm Jaspersoft from Cloud Software Group for $240 million, a deal expected to close within six months subject to customary approvals.
HCLSoftware said the acquisition will strengthen Actian, its data and AI division, which offers data management, governance, and analytics tools. Demand for these capabilities has grown as enterprises expand data platforms and deploy generative AI use cases.
“As GenAI adoption accelerates, customers are looking for business intelligence solutions that combine consistent analytics with flexibility,” said Marc Potter, Chief Executive of Actian.
In a separate transaction, HCLTech signed an agreement to acquire the Telco Solutions business from Hewlett Packard Enterprise, expanding its footprint in telecom software. The unit supports more than one billion devices across over 200 deployments worldwide and provides software for operations support systems, subscriber data management, and AI-driven network automation.
About 1,500 engineers and telecom specialists across 39 countries are expected to join HCLTech as part of the deal, which is subject to regulatory approvals and expected to close in around six months. The Telco Solutions business was previously part of HPE’s Communications Technology Group, assets of which HCLTech had acquired in 2024.
“These acquisitions strengthen our ability to support communication service providers as they modernize their networks,” said Anil Ganjoo, HCLTech’s Chief Growth Officer and Global Head of Telecom, Media, and Technology.
Rami Rahim, Executive Vice-President and General Manager of networking at HPE, said the transaction would help ensure continued innovation for telecom customers.
Separately, the company is acquiring Wobby, an early-stage startup based in Antwerp that builds AI data analyst agents for data warehouses. Financial terms were not disclosed.
