  • Amazon is expanding access to its AI-powered health assistant, called Health AI, to customers in the US using its main shopping platform and mobile app, moving the tool beyond its earlier rollout within the One Medical ecosystem.

The assistant was introduced earlier this year for members of Amazon’s One Medical primary case service and is designed to help users understand medical information, ask health-related questions, and connect with healthcare providers.

Amazon said the broader rollout will begin immediately, with availability expanding over the coming weeks.

Health AI functions as an “agentic” assistant that can answer general health queries or, if users grant permission, access personal health records to provide more tailored responses.

Through integrations with health data exchanges and One Medical services, the system can explain lab results, summarize medical records, suggest possible next steps based on symptoms, and connect users with healthcare providers via message, video consultation, or in-person appointments.

The assistant can also facilitate prescription renewals through Amazon Pharmacy or other pharmacies and suggest health-related products available on Amazon’s marketplace when users request them.

Users who want a personalized experience must authorize the assistant to access their medical records, including diagnoses, medications, lab results, and clinical notes.

Amazon said this information is retrieved through the US health information exchange network, a system used to share patient data securely across healthcare providers.

For users seeking professional care, Health AI can route them to One Medical providers.

The company is also offering a limited promotion for eligible Amazon Prime members: up to five free message-based consultations covering common conditions such as colds, allergies, urinary tract infections, and skin issues.

Outside the promotion, telehealth visits through One Medical’s pay-per-visit service will cost $29.

Dr. Omar Lateef, President and CEO of Rush University System for Health, said “Our partnership with Amazon reflects our shared vision of making health care more accessible and convenient for the communities we serve. Tools like Health AI represent an exciting opportunity to help patients navigate their health journey more effectively while staying connected to their care teams.’

Amazon said Health AI is not intended to replace clinicians and is designed to escalate cases to human providers when the system is uncertain or when professional care is required.

Technically, the system runs on Amazon Bedrock and uses a multi-agent architecture in which different AI components handle tasks such as patient interaction, workflow management, and real-time safety checks.

The move reflects Amazon’s broader push into healthcare services following its acquisition of One Medical in 2023 and the expansion of its pharmacy and telehealth offerings.
