Anthropic is strengthening its infrastructure leadership, bringing in a senior executive from Microsoft to help keep its systems online and scalable.
Eric Boyd, who spent over 16 years at Microsoft, will join Anthropic as head of infrastructure, according to a LinkedIn post on Tuesday.
“AI is accelerating at an incredible pace,” Boyd wrote. “The impact of Claude Code in the last 6 months, and particularly the last two months, just shows the power of what is possible.”
The move comes as Anthropic grapples with a spike in demand for its AI tools, including Claude Code, a product designed to streamline software writing and debugging.
The company has, at times, struggled to maintain uptime amid what it calls “unprecedented demand” from both individual users and enterprises.
To keep up, Anthropic is ramping up its cloud and compute capacity, committing $50 billion toward building AI data centers in the US. The scale of this investment, while significant, still trails rival OpenAI, which has outlined plans to spend roughly $600 billion on AI infrastructure by 2030.
Boyd brings deep experience in scaling AI systems. At Microsoft, he led the company’s AI platform efforts, overseeing the deployment of large language models across both internal teams and customers. He reported to Executive Vice President Jay Parikh and managed a team of around 1,500 employees. Before Microsoft, Boyd held leadership roles at Yahoo.
“His experience leading infrastructure at enterprise scale will help ensure we can meet record demand from customers around the world,” said Rahul Patil, Anthropic’s chief technology officer, in a LinkedIn post.
The hire highlights a broader shift in the AI race: beyond building smarter models, companies are now in a parallel sprint to build the infrastructure needed to run them reliably at scale.
