  • Amazon Web Services (AWS) and India’s vernacular social gaming platform, WinZO, have announced an expansion of WinZO’s Global Center of Excellence (GCoE). GCoE is a flagship initiative launched in partnership with the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) in November 2024. The move highlights a strategic push to supercharge India’s gaming ecosystem using generative AI (Gen AI), cloud computing, and talent development.

WinZO, which has over 250 million users, is building this next phase of its GCoE with AWS to empower entrepreneurs and developers across India’s interactive entertainment sector. The focus is on adopting Gen AI to accelerate game development, enhance player experiences, and nurture a global gaming talent pool.

WinZO’s GCoE will use AWS tools like Amazon Bedrock, a managed service for building and scaling Gen AI applications, to create localized AI assistants that instantly translate support queries across 12 Indian languages. These assistants can resolve player concerns, from saved progress to game tips, providing around-the-clock, vernacular-first help. Game developers will also be able to automate testing processes using Bedrock, potentially shortening development cycles by up to 25%.

In addition, the GCoE will tap Amazon SageMaker to help developers personalize player journeys using machine learning. From recommending puzzle games to casual players to nudging competitive users toward multiplayer tournaments, the AI-driven recommendations will create more immersive and tailored gaming experiences.

Further, to bridge the growing talent gap in cloud and AI expertise, WinZO is rolling out structured training via AWS Training and Certification for employees and game developers in its ecosystem. Members will also benefit from the AWS Skills to Jobs Tech Alliance, a national effort bringing together educational institutions, tech employers, and government to tackle workforce challenges.

The company said in a statement that with 87% of organizations citing skill shortages as a key barrier to digital transformation, this collaboration with AWS will not only address the talent gap but also position India as a global hub for gaming innovation.

Paavan Nanda, Co-founder of WinZO, said, “At WinZO, we believe India is poised to lead the next wave of global gaming innovation by leveraging its true strengths, youth, creativity, and scale. Through our Global Center of Excellence, and in collaboration with AWS, we’re building a platform that empowers developers to create immersive, safe, and inclusive gaming experiences using generative AI.”

WinZO’s GCoE is emerging as a launchpad for Indian gaming startups. Through AWS accelerator programs, emerging companies will receive cloud credits, mentorship, go-to-market support, and targeted AI/ML workshops.

Satinder Pal Singh, Director, Solution Architecture, AWS India and South Asia, said, “India’s gaming industry is thriving on the cloud, and WinZO is a trailblazer in harnessing generative AI to reimagine gaming experiences at a global scale. This collaboration is not only accelerating innovation but also strengthening India’s position as a global talent and technology hub.”
