Fintech firm BharatPe on Thursday named Ajit Kumar as its Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Kumar succeeds Pankaj Goel, who stepped down from the position in May.
Kumar, who brings over 19 years of experience in engineering and technology leadership, joins BharatPe from Paytm, where he served as Senior Vice President of Engineering.
In his new role, Kumar will guide BharatPe’s technology strategy and innovation roadmap, focusing on building scalable, reliable, and future-ready products across payments and lending verticals.
At Paytm, Kumar scaled engineering operations and strengthened platform performance in a competitive fintech ecosystem.
Before Paytm, he held senior technology leadership positions at Snapdeal (via Shopo), Times Internet, and SAP Labs India, where he led large teams in developing high-performance systems and driving organisational growth.
“I am excited to join BharatPe in its growth journey. I look forward to working with the talented team here to build resilient, high-performance platforms that redefine digital payments and credit accessibility for merchants and consumers alike,” Kumar said.
BharatPe, which has rapidly emerged as one of India’s leading payments and financial services platforms, serves millions of small and medium merchants. The company has diversified from QR code-based UPI payments into lending and other fintech services aimed at enabling financial inclusion.
Kumar holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science from Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) and a postgraduate diploma in Advanced Software Engineering from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore.
