  • Apple is setting up a training hub in Bengaluru to teach skills such as coding, robotics, automation, and smart manufacturing to workers at its supplier factories in India, the company said.

Instead of training every worker directly, Apple will train instructors, who will then roll out the courses, including digital literacy and introductory Swift coding, across more than 25 supplier sites, starting with Tata Electronics.

The Apple Education Hub, developed in collaboration with the Manipal Academy of Higher Education, will begin offering courses in March.

“The same spirit of innovation that drives our products also guides our commitment to supporting people across our global supply chain…We’re expanding technical training courses in India to give employees opportunities to build new skills,” said Sarah Chandler, Apple’s Vice-President of Environment and Supply Chain Innovation.

The initiatives are part of Apple’s $50 million Supplier Employee Development Fund. The company said it currently offers more than 75 courses to supplier employees in India, ranging from technical and professional training to health and rights awareness programs.

“This collaboration brings together Apple’s commitment to its supplier employees and Manipal’s experience in applied education,” added Lt. Gen. (Dr.) M.D. Venkatesh, Vice-Chancellor of MAHE. “Supplier communities are central to India’s manufacturing ecosystem.”

Apple said it will also expand its robotics training program in India this year.

Separately, the company is growing its vocational education program for people with disabilities in India, following a recent launch with Salcomp.

Apple said the program builds on its partnership with the nonprofit Enable India and focuses on employment opportunities and accessibility at supplier facilities.
