Apple Inc. Chief Executive Tim Cook has dismissed speculation about his retirement, saying he remains fully committed to leading the company despite renewed scrutiny of its leadership bench.

Speaking on ABC’s Good Morning America, Cook rejected reports that he may step aside. “No, I didn’t say that. I haven’t said that. I love what I do deeply. Twenty-eight years ago, I walked into Apple, and I’ve loved every day of it since,” he said, adding he “can’t imagine life without Apple.”

The comments come as Apple navigates a period of senior-level churn. The company recently saw the departure of artificial intelligence head John Giannandrea, along with its general counsel and a senior design executive within a short span. Reports have also flagged the potential exit of chip chief Johny Srouji, raising questions about continuity in key roles.

The leadership changes have led to renewed scrutiny of Cook’s leadership approach, particularly as Apple navigates a period defined by rapid advances in artificial intelligence.

Critics have questioned whether the company’s operational focus is well suited to competing in a technology cycle increasingly driven by AI capabilities.

The timing is significant as Apple prepares for its 50th anniversary on April 1, 2026. The company is expected to introduce new products including a foldable iPhone and AI powered glasses, while also working to deliver an upgraded version of its Siri assistant after missing its earlier timeline in 2025.

Cook sought to reinforce confidence in Apple’s internal culture and long term direction. “We’ve had ups and downs, but the people I work with are so amazing. They bring out the best in me. And hopefully, I can bring out the best in them,” he said.

Having taken over as chief executive in 2011, Cook has overseen a period of significant growth, with Apple’s market value rising sharply during his tenure.

Recent reports had suggested he might gradually scale back responsibilities, with hardware chief John Ternus seen as a possible successor, though Cook’s latest remarks indicate no immediate plans to step aside.

The company has begun marking its anniversary with events including a gathering at its Grand Central store in New York.

In a message reflecting on Apple’s history, Cook wrote, “Fifty years ago in a small garage, a big idea was born. Apple was founded on the simple notion that technology should be personal, and that belief changed everything.”
