Hyderabad-based Avantel Ltd has secured a ₹459.9 crore (about $49 million) rate contract from Zetwerk Manufacturing Businesses Ltd to supply satellite communication equipment for Indian Railways’ real-time train tracking system, in a deal that also includes long-term maintenance support.
The contract value excludes taxes.
The order covers the supply and annual maintenance of Real-Time Train Information System (RTIS) devices for the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) and is to be executed over three years. It also includes a one-year on-site warranty and a five-year annual maintenance contract.
RTIS is part of Indian Railways’ effort to automate the capture of train movement data through satellite-linked devices installed on locomotives.
Indian Railways has said the system was developed with the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) to improve real-time tracking and operational visibility.
Indian Railways has said RTIS data is automatically plotted in its Control Office Application system, helping improve train movement planning and operational visibility.
