Google DeepMind Selects 16 APAC Climate AI Projects
Four Indian organizations are among the cohort using AI for agriculture, carbon markets and climate resilience.

Google DeepMind has selected 16 organizations across Asia-Pacific for the inaugural regional cohort of its AI for the Planet accelerator, backing projects in agriculture, biodiversity, carbon removal and climate resilience.
The three-month program begins this week with a bootcamp in Singapore and will provide participating startups, nonprofits and research teams with access to Google AI models, technical support and mentorship.
Four organizations from India made the inaugural cohort.
Terrastack is combining satellite imagery with agricultural data to provide plot-level intelligence for smallholder farmers. Climitra Carbon is using geo-spatial AI to verify the removal of invasive plant species and their conversion into biochar.
Farmers for Forests is using AI-enabled drones to measure the carbon and biodiversity impact of smallholder agroforestry, while Varaha Climate is applying remote sensing and AI to verify regenerative farming and carbon-removal projects that can generate carbon credits for farmers.
The wider cohort includes organizations from Australia, Indonesia, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea and Thailand. Their projects range from AI-powered wildlife cameras and bioacoustic monitoring to satellite-based crop estimates and urban energy management.
Participants will have access to specialized Google models including AnthroKrishi, ForestCast, AlphaEarth Foundations, SpeciesNet and Perch.
The program reflects a growing push to take advanced AI models beyond general-purpose assistants and apply them to problems where data is difficult to collect or interpret, including land use, ecosystems and agricultural productivity.
Google said the accelerator is intended to “help participants move their existing projects toward wider deployment.”
The company did not disclose any financial investment associated with the program yet.
