  • Deepinder Goyal’s aviation venture LAT Aerospace has acquired Gurugram-based defense robotics startup Sharang Shakti, marking its entry into the defense technology space as it works on developing both civil and military aerospace capabilities.

Goyal announced the acquisition in a post on LinkedIn and X on Tuesday, 24 February, calling it the company’s first step toward indigenous defense development alongside its civil aviation plans.

“LAT Aerospace has acquired Sharang Shakti, an early-stage defence robotics startup based in Gurugram. This is our first move toward building indigenous defence capabilities alongside our long-term mission of developing next-generation civil aviation platforms from India,” Goyal wrote.

He said civil aviation and defense are often viewed separately, but “the core technology stack is shared across autonomy, perception, sensing, navigation, guidance, and control systems.”

Founded in 2023 by IIT Delhi alumni Karan Goyal, Chirag Singla, Gaurav Kumar, Jitendra Singh and Rishabh Choudhary, Sharang Shakti develops anti drone air defense systems.

The company said it is building low C SWaP radars designed to detect micro drones and hard-kill interceptors that can neutralize rogue drones.

Goyal said bringing Sharang Shakti under LAT Aerospace would help the firm develop the technologies “in-house, from first principles, with the intent to deploy them across defense and civil programs,” he said.

The acquisition comes more than a month after Goyal stepped down as Group CEO of Eternal, the parent entity of Zomato, saying he wanted to pursue high-risk ideas outside the constraints of a listed company.

Over the past year, Goyal has been involved in multiple ventures, including LAT Aerospace and longevity-focused Continue Research. He is also exploring a wearable device firm under the name Temple.

LAT Aerospace was founded in January 2025 by Surobhi Das and Deepinder Goyal. Das founded the company, while Goyal serves as non-executive co-founder and investor. In early 2025, Goyal invested $20 million in the startup while it was in stealth mode.

Last month, the firm conducted the first test-flight of its prototype aircraft, Lat One v0.1, claiming ultra-short take-off and landing capability.

In a podcast earlier this year, Goyal said the company is developing aircraft capable of taking off and landing within around 20 metres to reduce reliance on large airport infrastructure.

“Take-off and landing within, let’s say 20 metres, which will in turn eliminate the need for the elaborate airport infrastructure. This has never been done in this world. This is radical in terms of aviation,” Goyal said in the podcast.
