  • Hero MotoCorp has appointed Harshavardhan Chitale as chief executive officer (CEO), effective 5 January 2026, following board approval.

Chitale succeeds acting chief executive Vikram Kasbekar, who will work on the transition and then continue as executive director and chief technology officer.

Kasbekar had stepped in after former CEO Niranjan Gupta resigned earlier this year.

The Dutch lighting company Signify lists Chitale as CEO of its Professional business and a member of its Board of Management. The unit generates about €4 billion in sales.

He earlier led Philips Lighting India and held senior roles at HCL Infosystems and Honeywell Automation India.

“Harsh’s outstanding track record in driving growth, fostering innovation, and leading global transformation makes him the ideal leader for Hero MotoCorp at this pivotal moment… His vision and dynamism will accelerate our journey across electric and emerging mobility, premiumization, digitalization, sustainability, and organizational renewal,” executive chairman Pawan Munjal said.

An alumnus of IIT Delhi and a Director’s Gold Medal recipient, Chitale is noted for a leadership style that bridges both strategic and operational perspectives. He is also active as an angel investor in emerging sectors such as EVs, clean energy, health tech, and agri-tech.

The leadership change at Hero MotoCorp Ltd comes as India’s largest two-wheeler maker posted a mixed April-June quarter.

Consolidated net profit rose 65% year-on-year to ₹1,706 crore, helped by a one-time gain from the listing of Ather Energy, while revenue from operations fell about 4.7% to ₹9,728 crore. Quarterly unit sales totaled 1.37 million.
