In a move to enhance its digital resilience and ensure uninterrupted services, ICICI Lombard has upgraded its disaster recovery (DR) infrastructure in partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS). The insurance company has migrated its DR setup from the AWS Asia Pacific (Mumbai) Region to the AWS Asia Pacific (Hyderabad) Region. This upgrade, built on a fully automated, cloud-native architecture, covers all business-critical applications and enables rapid failover in case of any disruptions.
The shift is part of ICICI Lombard’s broader strategy to strengthen its operational readiness amid rising climate and technology-related risks. By leveraging AWS’s native services like Elastic Disaster Recovery (EDR), AWS Step Functions, and infrastructure-as-code, the company has set up a robust system that allows continuous replication of applications and databases between its primary and DR sites, and enables seamless switching using domain-based routing.
Girish Nayak, Chief- Technology & Health (Underwriting and Claims) at ICICI Lombard, said, “In a first-of-its-kind move in the insurance sector, we seamlessly transitioned all business applications to our secondary cloud region, demonstrating our readiness to operate without disruption during unforeseen events. This was not just a test of technology, but a validation of vision.”
He further said that their partnership with AWS is a cornerstone in future-proofing our digital infrastructure, moving them from recovery preparedness to true continuity assurance. By leveraging a fully automated, cloud-native DR architecture, they have proven that resilience and agility can coexist at scale. This achievement reinforces their commitment to regulatory compliance, customer trust, and uninterrupted service delivery.
Kiran Jagannath, Head of FSI and Conglomerates at AWS India and South Asia, highlighted the importance of the collaboration and said, “AWS is pleased to collaborate with ICICI Lombard to secure its mission-critical workloads, ensuring faster application recovery, greater reliability, and data protection through a fully automated data recovery process. ICICI Lombard has always prioritized its commitment to better customer experience and compliance through a robust technology backbone, and this implementation is a logical next step in its growth journey.”
ICICI Lombard has been among the early adopters of cloud technology in India’s BFSI sector. The company had already migrated its core policy issuance and claims platforms to the cloud and continues to modernize its technology stack. This latest DR transformation underlines its proactive approach to ensuring service continuity, regulatory compliance, and customer satisfaction in an increasingly volatile digital environment.
