Tech industry body Nasscom has appointed Srikanth Velamakanni, Co-founder and Group Chief Executive of Fractal, as its Chairperson, placing an AI entrepreneur at the head of India’s technology industry body at a time when artificial intelligence is beginning to reshape services, products and workforce priorities.
Velamakanni succeeds Sindhu Gangadharan, Managing Director of SAP Labs India, who completes her term in April.
Nasscom also elected Kishor Patil, Co-founder, CEO and Managing Director of KPIT, as Vice Chairperson.
Velamakanni takes over after serving as Nasscom’s Vice Chairperson and as a member of its Executive Council for more than six years.
Nasscom said he brings experience in enterprise AI, analytics, responsible technology and global go-to-market strategy as the industry looks to build the next phase of AI-led growth.
The appointment comes as India’s technology sector crosses the $300 billion mark and faces a structural shift from traditional IT services toward AI-enabled services, products and platforms.
India’s technology industry is projected to reach $315 billion in revenue in fiscal 2026, according to Nasscom.
Velamakanni will work with Nasscom President Rajesh Nambiar and the Executive Council to shape the industry body’s agenda.
Nasscom said the focus will include services transformation through AI, product innovation, and agentic AI, with the aim of positioning India as a source of autonomous, multi-agent systems and vertical AI products for global markets.
“AI progress is unlocking unprecedented opportunities for enterprises, large and small, to reimagine their businesses. India will play a pivotal role in this AI-led transformation. Over the coming year, our focus will be to drive the next cycle of AI-powered growth across services and products and prepare our workforce to lead with AI,” Velamakanni said.
Rajesh Nambiar said Velamakanni brings “a rare combination of entrepreneurial drive and AI depth” to the role and that Nasscom will continue to position India’s technology industry as a trusted AI-led transformation partner.
Gangadharan said it had been an honor to lead Nasscom during a period of change for the industry, adding that India’s technology sector had grown in scale, ambition and global impact.
Velamakanni co-founded Fractal, one of India’s early AI and analytics companies. Reuters reported last year that Fractal had received approval from India’s market regulator for what it described as the country’s first AI-focused IPO.
