  • Swiggy has appointed former Myntra chief executive Nandita Sinha to lead Instamart from August 3 after Amitesh Kumar Jha resigned to pursue other opportunities.

Jha ceased to be part of Swiggy’s senior management on July 28, the company said in a stock exchange filing on Tuesday, 28 July. He had led the quick-commerce business since September 2024.

Sinha brings more than two decades of experience across consumer goods and online retail. She previously served as chief executive of Flipkart-owned fashion marketplace Myntra and held senior positions at Flipkart, Britannia Industries Ltd and Hindustan Unilever Ltd.

She led Myntra from 2022 until April, when parent company Flipkart appointed Sharon Pais to head the fashion platform.

“Nandita is one of India’s most accomplished consumer internet leaders,” Swiggy Managing Director and Group Chief Executive Sriharsha Majety said, citing her experience in customer-focused businesses and operations.

Sinha said Instamart had a strong customer culture and significant room for further growth.

Her appointment comes as Instamart faces competition from Eternal-owned Blinkit and Zepto, while Amazon and Walmart-owned Flipkart expand their rapid-delivery businesses in India.

Companies are investing in warehouses, wider product ranges and faster deliveries as they compete for customers in an Indian quick-commerce market estimated at $11.5 billion.

Instamart has expanded beyond groceries into electronics, beauty products, household supplies and other categories. Swiggy has also sought to improve the business’s margins by increasing order values and generating more sales from its existing network.

Majety credited Jha with overseeing Instamart’s expansion, launching its Noice private label and improving operating discipline during his tenure.

Before joining Flipkart in 2013, she worked at Britannia and Hindustan Unilever and founded an online baby-care retailer.

Swiggy is scheduled to report its first-quarter results on July 30, when investors are expected to focus on Instamart’s growth, spending and progress toward reducing losses.
