Google has completed its acquisition of cloud security startup Wiz, bringing the New York-headquartered platform into its Google Cloud division as competition intensifies around securing cloud and AI infrastructure.
Wiz will continue to operate under its existing brand while remaining compatible with major cloud providers, including Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, and Oracle Cloud.
The deal reflects growing pressure on cloud providers to strengthen cybersecurity as enterprises shift critical data, applications, and AI systems to cloud environments. Security concerns have also increased as attackers increasingly use artificial intelligence to automate and scale cyberattacks.
Wiz provides a cloud security platform designed to connect across multiple cloud environments and scan infrastructure, applications, and code for vulnerabilities. Its technology is widely used by enterprises to detect misconfigurations, monitor threats, and respond to potential breaches.
By integrating Wiz into Google Cloud, the companies aim to create a security platform that allows organizations to detect, prevent, and respond to cyber threats across different cloud environments and AI workloads. The combined tools are expected to help companies monitor risks across the full technology stack, from code development to cloud infrastructure and runtime systems.
The companies also say the platform will focus on identifying new threats emerging from AI models while using AI tools to assist security teams in detecting vulnerabilities and investigating attacks more quickly.
The move comes as many organizations increasingly adopt multicloud strategies, spreading workloads across several providers rather than relying on a single platform. This has complicated cybersecurity operations, often forcing companies to manage multiple security tools and policies.
According to Google Cloud, integrating Wiz’s technology could help simplify these environments by providing a unified set of security tools across different cloud services.
“Keeping people safe online has always been part of Google’s mission,” said Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google. “This job is increasingly important today, as more companies and governments move their work to the cloud and broadly use generative AI. By bringing Wiz and Google Cloud together, we’re making it easier for organizations to innovate with confidence.”
For Wiz, the deal offers the opportunity to expand its reach through Google’s infrastructure and global customer base.
“Joining Google Cloud allows us to scale our mission of protecting customers wherever they operate, at machine speed,” said Assaf Rappaport, co-founder and CEO of Wiz. “We remain committed to our open approach, ensuring Wiz continues to support all major cloud and code environments.”
Despite the integration, Wiz products will remain available across competing cloud platforms and through partner security vendors, reflecting the increasingly interconnected nature of enterprise cloud deployments.
