While the country has strong capabilities in design and engineering, large-scale manufacturing remains a challenge.

“We have enough skills and technology for chip development in India. However, the area where we are weak is manufacturing,” said V. Veerappan, Co-Founder of chip engineering firm Tessolve and former chairman of the India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA).

In a conversation with MIT Sloan Management Review India’s Vidyashree S, Veerappan highlighted a key gap in India’s semiconductor ambitions: while the country has strong capabilities in design and engineering, large-scale manufacturing remains a challenge.
