Sanghamitra Bandyopadhyay is the Director of the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), Kolkata, and the first woman to hold this position since the institute’s founding. She is a renowned scientist in AI, machine learning, and computational biology.
Her academic background spans physics and computer science, with degrees from Presidency College, University of Calcutta, IIT Kharagpur, and ISI Kolkata. Her research includes pattern recognition, evolutionary computation, and multi-objective optimization.
Bandyopadhyay has received several prestigious honors including the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize, Infosys Prize, TWAS Prize, and the Padma Shri.
