Advait Energy Transitions Ltd said it signed an agreement with Norway’s TECO Fuel Cell Technology AS to set up a framework for hydrogen fuel cell manufacturing in India, as the country seeks to build domestic clean-energy supply chains.

The memorandum of understanding was signed on 18 May during the third India-Nordic Summit in Oslo, the company said in an exchange filing.

The signing was witnessed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

The companies plan to work on local manufacturing, adaptation and deployment of hydrogen fuel cell technology for stationary power, heavy-duty transport and maritime applications.

Advait said production for stationary power, including data center systems, is targeted for the first quarter of calendar 2027, while production for heavy-duty transport, mobility and maritime applications is planned from the first quarter of calendar 2028.

TECO Fuel Cell Technology and Austria’s AVL List GmbH will bring their jointly developed 400 kW hydrogen fuel cell module and 100 kW fuel cell stack to India for domestic manufacturing and deployment. The system is modular and can be scaled to multi-megawatt configurations, Advait said.

The companies expect the manufacturing program to create at least 200 skilled jobs by 2032 across engineering, production, systems integration and project execution.

The agreement aligns with India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission, which targets at least 5 million metric tons of annual green hydrogen production capacity by 2030.

“India now has the industrial capability, engineering talent, and policy momentum to become an active contributor to the global clean-energy ecosystem,” Shalin Sheth, founder and managing director of Advait Energy Transitions, said in the company statement.

The agreement was signed by Sheth and Tore Enger, Executive Chairman of TECO Maritime Group and Chief Executive Officer of TECO Fuel Cell Technology AS.

Modi’s visit to Norway was the first by an Indian prime minister since 1983.

Ahmedabad-based Advait Energy Transitions, established in 2009, operates across power transmission, substation infrastructure, green hydrogen, fuel cell systems, battery energy storage, solar energy and sustainability services.

The company said it has completed more than 450 projects in over 45 countries.
