Maharashtra Approves AI Policy 2026
Maharashtra’s cabinet approved the AI Policy 2026 on 29 April, aiming to attract $1.05 billion (₹10,000 crore) in investment and create 150,000 jobs by 2031. The policy establishes a State AI Mission, six AI Excellence Centers, five AI Innovation Cities, training for 200,000 youth, and a $52.7 million (₹500 crore) AI Startup Venture Fund targeting at least one AI unicorn.
CERT-In Outlines Safeguards Amid Mythos Risk
India’s CERT-In issued a high-severity advisory on 27 April, warning organizations and small industries about cybersecurity risks from advanced frontier AI models capable of autonomously detecting vulnerabilities, generating exploits, and executing multi-stage attacks, lowering barriers for cybercriminals while also aiding defenses.
TCS, Siemens to Develop Data Center Infrastructure
TCS and Siemens Energy signed two MoUs around 26 April to enhance AI-ready data center infrastructure in India, with Siemens Energy supporting TCS’s HyperVault data center business through power generation, electrification, and grid technologies.
India Leads Global AI Engineering Hiring
India recorded the fastest growth in AI engineering hiring among all markets studied by LinkedIn, outpacing the US, UK, France, and Germany. While Bengaluru matches San Francisco with 3% of members tagged as AI engineers, momentum is spreading, Hyderabad is up 51% and tier-2 city Vijayawada up 45.5% year-on-year, with manufacturing emerging as a fast-growing sector for AI talent.
Google Signs Classified AI Deal with Pentagon
Google has joined OpenAI and xAI as a U.S. Department of Defense contractor for technological advancements. It will supply AI models for classified use, including mission planning and weapons targeting. The agreement will require the company to adjust its AI safety settings and filters, and does not give it the right to control or veto the government’s request.

OpenAI Eyeing AI-centric Smartphone Launch in 2028
In a move to rival Apple’s iPhone, OpenAI reportedly plans to develop next-generation smartphone processors. The initiative will see Qualcomm and MediaTek as co-development partners, with mass production anticipated by 2028.

Microsoft-OpenAI’s Amended Partnership
In a joint announcement, Microsoft and OpenAI revised their partnership agreement, which will see Microsoft’s revenue-share payments to OpenAI come to an end, strip cloud exclusivity, and convert Microsoft’s intellectual property license to a non-exclusive arrangement.
SpaceX Warns Investors of xAI’s Investigation Ahead of IPO
Ahead of its $1.75 trillion IPO, SpaceX warned of investigations into xAI’s development and distribution of sexually abusive imagery, risking loss of access to certain markets. SpaceX said agencies globally are investigating social media, AI, advertising, consumer protection, and harmful content.
