  • HCLTech Ltd on Monday said its software division, HCLSoftware, plans to acquire Wobby, an early stage startup based in Antwerp, Belgium, that develops AI data analyst agents for data warehouses. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The acquisition, which is expected to close by February 2026, is aimed at strengthening HCLSoftware’s data and artificial intelligence offerings as enterprises look to extract more value from generative AI and large data sets.

Wobby develops AI data analyst agents that allow users to query complex datasets using natural language and receive analytical insights in real time. The platform uses a proprietary semantic layer and agent based architecture to interpret business context, automate workflows, and generate analytical outputs at scale.

HCLSoftware said the addition of Wobby’s technology would expand the capabilities of Actian, its data and AI division, which focuses on metadata management, data catalogues, and data governance. Actian has seen rising demand for enterprise data management solutions over the past five years, the company said.

The acquisition is expected to add agent based AI capabilities to Actian’s data intelligence platform, particularly enhancing its knowledge graph functions. HCLSoftware said this would allow customers to interact more directly with raw data and generate insights without relying heavily on specialist teams.

“Customers want self-service analytics with AI driven insights that they can trust,” said Marc Poëer, chief executive of Actian and portfolio general manager of HCLSoftware’s data and AI division. “With Wobby, Actian provides LLM powered natural language analytics on a unified, governed semantic layer, enabling self service analytics that deliver context rich, accurate insights and a foundation for scaling GenAI initiatives with confidence.”

HCLSoftware said Wobby’s technology complements Actian’s existing focus on governed data access and enterprise scale analytics, as organisations increasingly look for tools that balance automation with control and data quality.
