Pratima Murthy is Director and Senior Professor of Psychiatry at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), Bengaluru. A long-serving faculty member since 1994, she has held leadership roles across the Centre for Addiction Medicine, Forensic Psychiatry and the Department of Psychiatry.
Her work has focused on addiction medicine, women’s mental health, tele-mental health services and public mental health systems reform. She has contributed to national policy frameworks, prison mental health initiatives and digital capacity-building platforms, including programs linked to the NIMHANS Digital Academy.
Murthy holds an MD and Diploma in Psychiatry from NIMHANS and a DPM from the University of Manchester. A Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, she has led dozens of research projects, authored hundreds of publications and received national and international recognition for advancing integrated mental health care.
