Amandeep Singh Gill was appointed United Nations Secretary-General’s Envoy on Technology in 2022. He also serves as Chief Executive Officer of the International Digital Health and Artificial Intelligence Research Collaborative (I-DAIR), a Geneva-based platform focused on applying AI and digital tools responsibly for global health.
Over a diplomatic career spanning more than three decades, Gill has been at the center of global discussions on technology. He has worked on regulation of lethal autonomous weapons, UNESCO’s ethics framework for artificial intelligence, and the United Nations digital cooperation agenda. He previously represented India as Ambassador to the Conference on Disarmament and has served in Tehran, Colombo, and Geneva, along with a visiting scholar role at Stanford University.
An electronics engineer by training, Gill earned his doctorate from King’s College London. He is fluent in English, French, Hindi, and Punjabi. His ability to combine technical knowledge with diplomatic skill has made him one of the most respected Indian voices in international technology policy.
