Chandrajit Banerjee is the Director General of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), a position he has held since 2008. A veteran with over 35 years at CII, he has played a central role in shaping the organisation’s agenda across diverse sectors including manufacturing, services, agriculture, life sciences, and MSMEs.
Banerjee has led CII’s Centres of Excellence, overseen regional operations, and was instrumental in building institutional frameworks for skill development and competitiveness. His policy leadership spans economic reforms, corporate governance, ease of doing business, innovation, macroeconomic strategy, logistics and urban development, energy transition, and MSME competitiveness. He is a regular representative of Indian industry at global economic platforms such as the World Economic Forum, and continues to advise both Indian and international governments on economic policy.
Banerjee’s contributions have been recognised globally. He is the recipient of the China-India Friendship Award and the Knight Commander of the Order of Queen Isabella (Spain), among other honours.
