  • Reetika Khera is a development economist and public policy scholar, currently Associate Professor at the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, IIT Delhi. Her extensive field studies on India’s public services—ranging from childcare centers and school meals to public health programs—have shaped national debates on social protection schemes such as NREGA, the Public Distribution System, and maternity benefits.

    Khera holds a PhD in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics, an M.Phil. in Development Studies from the University of Sussex, and was a postdoctoral research associate at Princeton University. Her research spans health and nutrition, education, social protection, employment, poverty, inequality, and the impact of digital technologies on welfare in India.

    She has received the Malcolm Adiseshaiah Award for Distinguished Contribution to Development Studies and has held fellowships and visiting positions at Stanford University and King’s College London, among others.
