Flipkart has launched a voice-enabled AI bot on WhatsApp that allows small retailers to place wholesale orders through simple conversations, marking a new chapter in conversational commerce.
Built on Sarvam AI’s multilingual platform, the bot supports voice commands in regional languages and handles the entire transaction flow, including product discovery, stock checks, discounts, and secure payments, all within a single chat.
Sarvam AI, a Bengaluru-based startup backed by Lightspeed, Peak XV, and Khosla Ventures, has positioned its platform around hyper-local voice assistants tailored for Indian businesses.
The partnership brings together Flipkart’s B2B network with Sarvam’s generative AI stack, designed to feel intuitive, natural, and conversational.
“We’re solving traditional challenges by meeting businesses where they already are,” Sarvam AI said in a LinkedIn post.
The bot can understand voice commands and can guide users through the entire purchase journey, from checking product availability to completing payments.
The initiative targets a long-standing gap in B2B commerce, where wholesale ordering has traditionally involved phone calls, delays, and operational uncertainty.
By integrating voice-first AI into WhatsApp, Flipkart aims to simplify access to its wholesale supply chain for small businesses, many of whom are unfamiliar with complex e-commerce interfaces, while also making digital commerce more inclusive for India’s small businesses.
The initiative also reflects a broader trend of embedding AI agents into everyday platforms like WhatsApp to bridge the gap between traditional retail and digital marketplaces, especially in India’s diverse, multilingual business landscape.
