Almost a year after his previous trip, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is scheduled to revisit India in February, as New Delhi prepares to host a global artificial intelligence gathering, reports TechCrunch.
While Altman’s name is not yet listed among the official speakers, OpenAI is reportedly organising a series of closed-door meetings on the sidelines of the upcoming India–AI Impact Summit 2026, scheduled to be held in New Delhi from February 16 to 20, where Altman is expected to be present.
In addition, OpenAI is said to be hosting a separate, invite-only event in the capital on February 19, bringing together venture capital firms and senior industry executives.
The company has been quietly scaling up operations in India, hiring across enterprise sales, technical deployment, and legal and policy roles linked to AI regulation. Active job listings are currently visible in New Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, indicating a more sustained, on-the-ground engagement with the Indian market.
Altman’s visit, though understated on the public agenda, is drawing attention because of the sheer scale of the summit and what it says about India’s rising stature in the global AI ecosystem.
Global AI Power Gathering in New Delhi
The India–AI Impact Summit will be held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi and will be the first global AI summit hosted in the Global South. Designed as a five-day programme, the event will span policy discussions, cutting-edge research, industry showcases, and public engagement.
The summit is anchored around three foundational pillars, described as ‘Sutras’: People, Planet, and Progress, signalling an emphasis not just on technological advancement, but also on inclusion, sustainability, and societal impact.
Global technology leaders expected to attend include Bill Gates, Chair of the Gates Foundation; Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet; Demis Hassabis, Co-founder and CEO of Google DeepMind; Jensen Huang, Founder and CEO of NVIDIA; and Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries.
Also on the list are Børge Brende, President and CEO of the World Economic Forum; Nandan Nilekani, Co-founder and Chairman of Infosys; K. Krithivasan, CEO and MD of Tata Consultancy Services; Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic; and Anna Tumadóttir, CEO of Creative Commons.
Running alongside the summit is the India AI Impact Expo, expected to host over 400 exhibitors across more than seven thematic pavilions, and attract over 1.5 lakh visitors, highlighting India’s ambition to position itself as both a consumer and shaper of AI technologies.
