Hindustan Zinc Ltd Chief Executive Arun Misra is likely to take over as group CEO at Vedanta Ltd in August, Mint reported, citing people familiar with the matter.
Vedanta has not officially announced the appointment.
The reported move comes after Vedanta completed the listing of four demerged businesses: Vedanta Aluminium Metal, Vedanta Power, Vedanta Oil and Gas, and Vedanta Iron and Steel.
The restructuring separates the group’s aluminum, power, oil and gas, and iron and steel businesses into independently listed companies, while Vedanta continues to house zinc, silver, copper and other base-metal assets.
Hindustan Zinc shareholders are being asked to consider and approve a two-month extension of Misra’s tenure as chief executive between June 1 and July 31 at the company’s annual general meeting scheduled for June 29, the company annual report showed.
Misra has led Hindustan Zinc since 2020. Under his leadership, the company’s FY26 revenue from operations rose nearly 20% to ₹40,844 crore, while profit increased 34% to ₹13,832 crore.
The leadership change, if confirmed, would come as Vedanta moves from a conglomerate structure to a group of sector-focused listed companies. The demerger is aimed at giving investors clearer exposure to individual businesses and allowing capital allocation to be based more closely on each commodity vertical.
Shares of the four newly listed entities began trading on June 15. The combined implied value of Vedanta and the four demerged entities stood at about ₹933 per original Vedanta share on debut, about 20.6% higher than Vedanta’s pre-demerger closing price of ₹773.6 on April 29.
Analysts have said the separation could improve transparency and help investors value each business independently, rather than applying a conglomerate discount to the group.
