Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw is the Founder and Chairperson of Biocon Group, one of India’s leading biopharmaceutical companies. She established Biocon in 1978 as an industrial enzymes company and led its evolution into a fully integrated biopharmaceutical enterprise focused on biosimilars, generics and novel biologics.
Under her leadership, Biocon expanded internationally and positioned itself as a significant player in affordable insulin, oncology and immunology therapies. Mazumdar-Shaw has been an advocate for innovation-led growth in biotechnology and greater investment in research and development within India’s life sciences sector.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in zoology from Bangalore University and a postgraduate qualification in malting and brewing from Australia. She has been awarded the Padma Shri and the Padma Bhushan for her contributions to industry and has served on multiple global advisory and academic boards.
