Parameswaran Iyer is Executive Director at the World Bank Group, representing India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Sri Lanka. A distinguished bureaucrat and policy strategist, he previously served as CEO of NITI Aayog, where he launched flagship initiatives such as the State Support Mission, the Aspirational Block Program, and the $25 billion Production Linked Incentive scheme to strengthen India’s manufacturing sector.
Iyer is best known for leading the Swachh Bharat Mission as Secretary of the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, which delivered safe sanitation to over 550 million people and transformed public health outcomes. He also initiated the Jal Jeevan Mission to expand household tap water access and pioneered the Swajal Project for rural water and sanitation.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in English Literature from St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi, and an MBA from the Management Development Institute, Gurgaon.
