Monika Shergill, Vice President of Content at Netflix India, decides which Indian stories are featured on the platform, in which language, and for what audience. Her role blends creativity, data, and instinct, shaping India’s presence on the global streaming map.
During her tenure, Netflix India’s slate has ranged widely in tone and ambition: from gritty, rooted dramas to genre-bending series, helping India become the company’s fastest-growing market in 2022 by net paid subscriber additions.
Shergill started out as a journalist and documentary filmmaker, spending years reporting on social and environmental issues across India. Before joining Netflix, she led programming teams at Star, Sony, and Viacom18, giving her extensive exposure to broadcast television and mass audiences, an experience that now informs her streaming strategy.
